"Sera", released by German Lo-fi producer and songwriter Bastido, intertwines concept, title and sound. The artist hones in on an evening theme throughout, with all songs cultivating a feeling of night calm from beginning to end. The 3 main songs encompass instrumental intros, with titles derived from the Occitan tongue, drawing reference to the artists adopted home town of Barcelona.
Serenade” the first song of the EP, begins the journey through dusk, carrying an awakening yet incessantly soothing melody. The journey fades into “Summer Blues”, a gentle song of departure that features Lofi/R&B singer Lia J on vocals. The nightfall transpires both in meaning and song, with “Calabrun” (defined as “sunset”) as the third track of the project. The laid back jazz hop instrumental soon leads to “Can’t Help Myself”, featuring US singer bradlee. The song encompasses the sound of Alternative R&B and exudes an essence of spring. A light, pure portrait of vulnerability follows with “Escur”, the preliminary track for the projects final song. “Colour Me In” featuring Marti West and chenice on vocals, concludes the journey through nightfall, portraying a journey of the voids within lovers being filled at last.
Bastido dares to explore sounds and genres exterior to his comfort zone, and succeeds. Embracing the feeling of serenity and calm throughout, “Sera” proves perfect for the summer evenings to come.
